Description
Zinc stearate with molecular formula Zn(C18H35O2)2 is a zinc soap that repels water. It is popular as the most powerful mold release agent among all metal soaps. It is characterized with hydrophobic effect and no electrolyte property. Its chemical properties are insolubility in polar solvents such as alcohol, ether and solubility in aromatic hydrocarbons e.g. benzene and chlorinated hydrocarbons when heated.

- As a chief ingredient in "fanning powder", used by magicians performing card manipulation to decrease the friction between the cards
